Guwahati: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police early Monday morning apprehended an individual and seized a consignment of narcotic drugs worth nearly Rs 4.5 crore from his possession.

Based on a tip-off regarding transportation of narcotics from Nagaland to Guwahati in a truck, a team of STF intercepted the vehicle, bearing registration number AS01-RC-2336, at Jorabat in Kamrup Metropolitan district of Assam.

During a search of the truck, the sleuths of STF recovered 45 plastic soap cases containing 537.2 grams of heroin.

The STF soon apprehended the driver of the truck, who allegedly is a notorious drugs supplier.

The accused has been identified as Rananjay Mandal (46), hailing from Assam’s Barpeta district, temporarily residing in Guwahati’s Basistha area.

The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
