Assam police arrested four women ,including an alleged key courier—and seized a large quantity of heroin from Amingaon area in Guwahati.

Guwahati: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Assam police arrested four women ,including an alleged key courier—and seized a large quantity of heroin from Amingaon area in Guwahati on Saturday morning.

Police said, acting on specific intelligence input that a group of women couriers, reportedly led by a “notorious narcotics courier” identified as Demthang Haokip (36), was planning to deliver drugs in Amingaon for distribution across lower Assam, a team of Guwahati police launched an operation.

During the raid, the team intercepted the group and apprehended the main suspect along with three other women. From their possession, police recovered 62 soap boxes containing suspected heroin, weighing approximately 837 grams (excluding packaging).

Officials estimated the value of the seized drugs at around Rs 7 crore.

The other arrested individuals were identified as Lam Neikim (25), Hoineigah (24), Kim Neithen (36), and Ngah Pi (30), all residents of Churachandpur district in Manipur.

According to police sources, the consignment was likely meant for distribution in various parts of lower Assam. Further investigation is currently underway to uncover the larger trafficking network involved.
