Govt looking into citizenship, D-voters, detention camp issues with top priority, Sonowal tells Assam’s Bengali community
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday said the sensitive issues plaguing the Bengali community of Assam including the citizenship issue, D-voters issue, detention camp of refugees among others are being looked into with utmost priority and the community should not feel insecure and marginalized.
Chief Minister Sonowal said this while speaking at the open session of the 4th biennial conference of Udalguri District Committee of All Assam Bengali Youth Students Federation (AABYSF) which concluded at Tangla in Udalguri district.
He also observed, “The Bengalis have a distinct and unique identity in the world platform. They stand out for their rich culture, sharp mind and philosophically strong attitude. The people of various tribes, communities and religions must play their role in cementing the ties of harmony thereby strengthening the greater Assamese society.”
Underlining Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of sabka saath sabka vikas, Sonowal said the government has been working to ensure equal development, equal dignity and equal opportunity to all sections of the people of the State.
Chief Minister Sonowal reiterated the commitment of the present State government towards providing security along with working for uplift of every backward and deprived community. He also emphasised that his government is according equal importance to both Brahmaputra and Barak valleys in terms of better communication through road, rail and air connectivity along with upcoming projects like medical and engineering colleges in Hailakandi.
He urged every section of people from the students, youths, farmers, intellectuals to join hands in unison for the development of the State. The CM further added that as apprised he is aware of the different problems faced by the people of Tangla and will take necessary steps to improve the dilapidated condition of the roads, potable drinking water project along with improvement of the condition of the Tangla CHC hospital.
Sonowal also said that his government is taking proper steps to eradicate the roots of corruption and will never tolerate irregularities and graft.
State PHE and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Rihon Diamary, speaking on the occasion said that all communities in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) region are residing peacefully and the government has ensured equal rights for every community residing in BTC.
He further said that the roads in Tangla will be improved with proper drainage system and the people of the town will get supply of pure drinking water soon.
Lok Sabha MP from Mangaldai constituency, Ramen Deka said about 430 km of roads, which need repair, have been detected. He also said, training programmes by KVK Udalguri has immensely helped unemployed youths by giving self-employment opportunities.
Hojai MLA Siladitya Deb said that there are certain outside forces, who always try to disturb the unity of the people and try to divide the people of Assam on the basis of religion, caste and creed. Deb exhorted the people to stand together to foil such divisive forces.
PWD Minister Parimal Suklabadya also spoke on the occasion. The session, presided over by Chief Advisor of All Assam Bengali Youth Students Federation (AABYSF), Sukumar Biswas, was also attended by Panery MLA Kamali Basumatari; Assam Industrial Development Corporation Limited (AIDC) Chairman Mission Ranjan Das; BTC EM Jagadish Sarkar; Kalaigaon MLA Maheshwar Boro; Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri, Dilip Kumar Das, SDO(Civil), Bhergaon, Dithakananda Hazarika along with the President of the AABYSF Kamal Choudhury and other members of the students’ body.
