GI certificates handed to 18 indigenous products from Arunachal Pradesh
GUWAHATI: The Geographical Indication (GI) certificates were conferred upon 18 distinctive products hailing from the picturesque landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh at the inauguration session of the much-anticipated State Folk Music and Dance Festival of Arunachal Pradesh at Namsai on Wednesday.
These products, including Khamti Rice, Apatani Textile, and Singpho Tea, among others, reflect the region's rich heritage and craftsmanship.
Arunachal Pradesh deputy chief minister Chowna Mein, alongside dignitaries like MP Tapir Gao, graced the event, highlighting the significance of these GI-certified products in showcasing the state's cultural richness.
With support from NABARD-Arunachal Pradesh Regional Office, these initiatives aim to boost local livelihoods and preserve indigenous traditions. NABARD's General Manager, Damodar Mishra, pledged continued support for future GI endeavors, emphasizing the importance of post-GI activities for economic growth.
Padmashree Dr Rajni Kant praised the state government and NABARD for their contributions to the GI journey, foreseeing promising prospects for cultural preservation and economic development.
Deputy CM Mein lauded NABARD's role in rural development and invited attendees to revel in the diverse cultural festivities of Arunachal Pradesh showcased at the event.
The festival will feature performances by 18 indigenous folk musical dance groups and 5 folk musical bands, with three teams representing Arunachal Pradesh at the Bharat Lok Sangeet – Arunachal Utsav 2024.
