Dimapur: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla allowed the Frontier Nagaland Territory issue to be raised in the House for discussion, the communications department of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) said in a release on Friday.

The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation has been demanding creation of the Frontier Nagaland Territory comprising six districts of Nagaland.

The organisation boycotted the Lok Sabha elections and also the recent urban local body polls in the state to press for its demand.

The NPCC said Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland S Supongmeren Jamir had submitted two unstarred questions about the two agreements signed between the Government of India and two Naga political groups and the Frontier Nagaland Territory issue.

It said the questions were not allowed to be discussed by the Speaker initially on the grounds that the information sought under the questions were secret in nature and in contravention of Rule 41(2) (xxi) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha.

However, in response to subsequent requests by the MP, the Speaker later allowed the issue of the Frontier Nagaland Territory to be raised in the Lok Sabha for discussion under Rule 377 of the same Rules of Procedures and Conduct, it informed.

The NPCC added that on Friday, Jamir called on Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi at his office in the Lok Sabha and apprised him of the two issues with an update on his recent efforts to raise the issues in the Lok Sabha.
