Floodwaters from Bangladesh breach border, inundate Indian villages in Tripura
AGARTALA: Floodwaters from Bangladesh have breached the Indian border, flooding villages in the Northeast state of Tripura.
Flood waters submerged multiple villages in Bangladesh, including Burichong, Shahidul, Panchra, Hyderabad, Shankuchail, Rajapur, Nabiabad, Bhapiradla, and Panchpilar.
The floodwaters, after causing extensive damage in these areas, began flowing towards the Indian border, eventually crossing into Tripura through border gates numbered 184 to 188 in the Buxnagar region.
As the waters surged across the barbed wire fence marking the international border, they inundated several villages in Tripura, including Kalsimura Nagar, Buxnagar, Dakshinpara, Bagber, and Adampur.
The flood has already submerged numerous homes in Buxnagar, with the water levels continuing to rise at an alarming rate.
This flood has rekindled memories of a similar incident in 2002, when floodwaters from Bangladesh entered the same region in Tripura, leading to significant damage.
After 28 years, the residents of this region find themselves once again grappling with the destructive force of cross-border flooding.
The local administration is on high alert, closely monitoring the situation and coordinating relief efforts.
Meanwhile, affected residents are struggling to safeguard their property and livelihoods as the floodwaters continue to spread.
Authorities are urging people in the affected areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
