ITANAGAR: In a recent development at Daporijo in Arunachal Pradesh, police have arrested five individuals in connection with the alleged confinement and rape of a 13-year-old girl.

The accused, identified as Bai Kaji, Tapong Baring, Raju Lomdak, Jepu Leya (also known as Jack Sorum), and Nanesh Nayam, were apprehended following a complaint lodged by the victim’s sister.

The harrowing incident reportedly took place over five days, during which the young girl was held captive and subjected to sexual assault.

The crime came to light when the victim’s sister filed a First Information Report (FIR) on July 28, prompting swift action from the local authorities.

Arunachal Pradesh police informed that the case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Specifically, the charges include Sections 137(2), 70(2), 3(5) of BNS, and Section 6 of the POCSO Act, which deals with punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault.

Following the filing of the FIR, one of the primary suspects was arrested the same day, with the remaining accused apprehended on July 29, 2024.

The Arunachal Pradesh police have since rescued the victim, who has undergone a medical examination and been reunited with her family.

All five suspects are currently in judicial custody, following the expiration of their police remand.

The police have urged the public to report similar incidents and assured that they will take swift action to protect victims and bring perpetrators to justice.
