Ranbir Kapoor and Aryan Khan show on Netflix in trouble over e-cigarette promotion
Guwahati: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Mumbai Police to file a case against actor Ranbir Kapoor, the producers of the web series 'The Ba**ds of Bollywood', and Netflix for promoting e-cigarettes, violating the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019.
In a scene from the show, Ranbir Kapoor is seen smoking an e-cigarette without any warning or disclaimer, according to complainant Vinay Joshi, which could mislead or influence young viewers.
Joshi further argued that such content promotes the use of banned substances, undermines law enforcement, and harms public health and societal values.
The NHRC has also issued a notice to the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, urging prompt action to prevent content that could negatively influence younger audiences.
The Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, has been instructed to investigate the manufacturers and importers of e-cigarettes involved in the show’s production.
The Commissioner has given two weeks to submit the action report. Directed by Aryan Khan, The Ba**ds of Bollywood is now streaming on Netflix.
