Rima Das first gained international recognition with 'Village Rockstars'. She then followed it up with 'Village Rockstars 2' in 2025. Since then, she has continued to win acclaim for her distinctive storytelling style.

With 'Not a Hero', Das again blends intimate human experiences with quiet yet powerful emotions. The film is shot in Assamese, Hindi and English.

The story follows a young boy sent away from the comforts of city life to his ancestral village. There, he meets a strict aunt and forms an unusual bond with a horse. He also befriends local children and joins them in untamed adventures. Through these experiences, he discovers courage, kindness and resilience in unexpected ways.

The film stars Bhuman Bhargav Das, who earlier appeared in Das’s 2022 film 'Tora’s Husband'. Sukanya Boruah also plays a key role.

Das produced Not a Hero under her banner Flying River Films, in collaboration with Akanga Film Asia. The film reflects her signature observational and intimate style, filled with emotional warmth and authenticity.

Speaking about the film, Das said it “opens a space for reflection across generations.” She also cited legendary filmmakers such as Satyajit Ray, Ingmar Bergman and Majid Majidi as her key inspirations.

The Generation section at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival features 18 feature films and 23 short films from 31 countries. It includes 30 world premieres and 10 feature debuts, making it one of the most competitive segments of the festival.

With 'Not a Hero', Rima Das once again brings the landscapes, culture and stories of Assam to a global audience. The film combines childhood adventures with emotional depth and universal themes of courage and compassion.
