Assam: Gauhati University launches integrated BSc-MSc programme in Data Analytics

Guwahati: Gauhati University has launched a five-year integrated B.Sc.–M.Sc. programme in Data Analytics from the 2026–27 academic session under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 framework.
The programme has been introduced by the university’s Department of Statistics and is aimed at preparing students for careers in artificial intelligence, big data, machine learning and analytics-driven industries.
According to the university, the course combines Statistics, Mathematics and Programming to equip students with analytical and technical skills aligned with emerging industry requirements.
Students enrolled in the programme will receive a B.Sc. (Honours) degree in Data Analytics after four years, with the option to continue for a fifth year to complete an integrated M.Sc. degree.
The university said the programme has been launched at a time when data analytics and AI are increasingly shaping sectors such as business, finance, healthcare, sports, media and public policy.
Citing industry estimates, the university noted that the World Economic Forum (WEF) has identified Big Data Specialists and AI Specialists among the fastest-growing professions globally, while NASSCOM has projected a sharp rise in demand for AI and data science professionals in India.
The university said the programme is intended to help students build industry-ready skills for careers in the digital and technology sectors.
