AIZAWL: Easter Sunday was celebrated in all parts of Mizoram with religious fervour to mark and commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion and His victory over death.

Special prayers and worship services were held by all churches of different denominations during which sermons relating to Christ's resurrection were delivered.

The Easter Sunday celebration began on Saturday evening with special worship services by different churches and Catholic Church members holding Easter vigil.

As usual, sunrise services were organised by the youth wings of different churches, including the Presbyterian and the Baptist Churches in their respective local churches to offer special prayers.

Different churches also served high-tea after worship services as part of the celebration.

Several local churches belonging to the Roman Catholic and United Pentecostal Church held community feasts to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus.

Roman Catholic churches also organised mass on Sunday and they will also hold Easter procession in the night.

Easter is an important Christian festival or religious observance commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

It is celebrated on the third day (first Sunday) after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ (Good Friday).

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted people on Easter Sunday and hoped that the message of renewal and optimism reverberated all over.

In a post on X, Modi said, "May this day inspire us all to come together, fostering unity and peace. Wishing everyone a joyful Easter."

"On Easter, we hope that the message of renewal and optimism reverberates all over," he said.

Other important leaders and dignitaries, including President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, also greeted people on the occasion of Easter Sunday.
