Don't threaten Assam: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma hits back at Mamata Banerjee
Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma delivered a scathing rebuke to West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
Sarma's remarks were in response to Banerjee's recent statements that he perceived as threatening and divisive.
Addressing Banerjee directly, Sarma said, "Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don't show us bloodshot eyes. Don't try to set India on fire with your politics of failure. It does not suit you to speak divisive language."
Earlier, Mamata Banerjee had stated that "divisive politics" of the BJP is threatening peace in West Bengal.
She said: "If Bengal burns, Assam, Northeast, Bihar and even Delhi will burn."
The West Bengal CM made this remark following clashes between TMC and BJP workers in the state on Wednesday during the 12-hour bandh called by the saffron party over the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata recently.
Mamata Banerjee issued a stark warning about the broader implications of the current unrest in Bengal.
Her comments come amid escalating criticism over her administration’s handling of the situation, with opposition parties accusing her of failing to uphold law and order in the state.
In what seemed to be a pointed message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Banerjee accused his party of exacerbating tensions in Bengal.
“Mr. Modi, your party is stoking the fires here in Bengal. If Bengal burns, so will Assam, the Northeast, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi! We will not hesitate to unseat you,” she warned.
