Guwahati: A massive fire ripped through a housing complex for migrant workers in southern Kuwait early Wednesday, leaving at least 41 dead and injuring dozens more.

The Indian Embassy confirmed over 30 Indian workers were among the injured.

The blaze erupted around 6:00 AM in the city of Mangaf.

Officials stated the building housed a large number of workers.

Smoke inhalation was suspected to be the cause of most fatalities.

Concerned officials are investigating the cause of the fire, with concerns raised about overcrowding in worker accommodations.

One official highlighted that they routinely warn against cramming too many workers into such confined spaces.

The Kuwaiti health ministry reported 43 people hospitalized, including four who died after admission.

It remains unclear if these deaths are included in the initial police count of 41.

Following the tragedy, Kuwaiti authorities ordered the arrest of the building owner, its janitor, and the company responsible for the workers residing there.
