GUWAHATI: Storms and heavy rains due to Cyclone Remal have caused widespread damage and casualties across the Northeast states of India.

The Imphal-Jiribam highway in Manipur experienced a landslide, causing a truck to fall into a gorge, further complicating travel and transportation in the region.

Stone quarry collapses in Mizoram

at least 14 people died and several others were reported to be missing as a stone quarry collapsed in Aizawl district of Mizoram on Tuesday (May 28) morning amid incessant rains as an impact of Cyclone Remal.

The incident happened around 6 am in an area between Melthum and Hlimen on the southern outskirts of Aizawl town in Mizoram.

Aizawl has been cut off from the rest of the country due to a landslide on National Highway 6 at Hunthar.

Moreover, several intra-state highways have also been disrupted by landslides.
