Agartala: The Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the previous CPI-M government in the state of neglecting the poor.

“The previous CPI-M government had neglected the poor,” said Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharya.

Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharya made this statement on Thursday (July 25) while reacting to the saffron party’s victory unopposed in over 70 percent of the panchayat seats of the state.

Bhattacharya said that the Tripura BJP has won 71% of the seats in the three-tier Panchayat elections uncontested.

He attributed this success of the party to the opposition’s ‘inability’ to field candidates due to organisational weaknesses.

The Panchayat elections in Tripura are scheduled for August 08, with results expected on August 12.

Out of 605 Gram Panchayats, which total 6370 seats, the BJP won 4704 seats uncontested, with elections pending for 1666 seats.

In 35 Panchayat Samitis, which encompass 423 seats, 244 were won uncontested by the BJP, with elections to be held for 179 seats.

Additionally, the Tripura BJP won 20 out of 116 Zila Parishad seats, with 96 seats still up for election.

Interacting with the media, Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharya highlighted the party’s achievements, including providing over 400,000 pucca houses, access to drinking water, sanitation facilities and social pensions.

He also slammed the previous CPI-M government in Tripura for allegedly neglecting the poor and benefiting its own leaders and their families.

Bhattacharya stated that the opposition’s failure to field candidates is due to their own shortcomings, not because of any actions by the BJP.

He dismissed opposition claims as baseless and asserted that the BJP’s success reflects its widespread support.
