Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma reaffirmed the state government's commitment to combating the drug menace that has severely impacted the lives of many young people.

During a drug awareness campaign at the Presbyterian Church in Zarkawt, central Aizawl, on Sunday, Lalduhoma emphasised the government's efforts to fight illicit drug trafficking in the state. He highlighted the collaborative role of churches and civil society organisations in this crucial battle against drugs.

“The state government is establishing a core committee dedicated to fighting drug abuse, sending a strong signal to the masses about eradicating the ill effects of drugs in Mizoram,” the Chief Minister announced.

V. Lalnunthara, founder and president of the Foundation for Drug-Free Mizoram, revealed that 41 people have died from substance abuse in the first five months of this year. He warned that Mizoram is on track to experience the highest toll of drug-related deaths in two decades due to widespread drug abuse.

“We cannot rest in our efforts to carry out drug awareness campaigns in schools and Sunday schools across Mizoram,” Lalnunthara stated.

At the event, hundreds of members of the Youth for Christ from Zarkawt Presbyterian Church pledged to abstain from drug use, showing strong community support for the anti-drug initiative.
