Congress wins both Lok Sabha seats in Manipur
Imphal: The Congress has won both the inner and outer Lok Sabha seats in Manipur.
The Congress won the Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur PC seats reserved for scheduled tribes in the state.
Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, a professor of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, who the Congress set up as its candidate for the said elections held on April 19 captured the seat for the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha Constituency.
Concurrently, former MLA Alfred K Arthur, a Congress leader also won the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha Constituency. The Outer Seat elections were held in two phases on April 19 and April 26.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress won both the two Lok Sabha seats in Manipur. In 2019, Dr R K Ranjan of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its coalition partner Naga People’s Front (NPF) candidate Dr Lorho S Pfoze won the two Lok Sabha seats.
In the Inner Manipur parliamentary seat, Professor, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam of INC secured 3,70,678 votes while his rival BJP candidate Thounaojam Basantakumar Singh secured 2,62, 217 votes, according to reports. The Republican Party of India (A) candidate Maheswar Thounaojam got 1,34, 308 votes and placed in third position.
On the other hand in the Outer PC, Alfred K Arthur of the INC candidate witnessed a landslide victory by securing around 3, 80, 793 votes more than his nearest rival Naga People's Front (NPF) candidate Timothy Zimic who secured 2, 98, 164 votes.
However, so far no official data has been issued to the media till the filing of the report except the unsigned ones.
Manipur has two parliamentary constituencies - The outer parliamentary constituency reserved for scheduled tribes and the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat.
Ten candidates - four in the Outer PC and six for the Inner Manipur PC were in the battles of ballots. Manipur went to the Lok Sabha elections 2024 in two phases.
