Congress publicity van vandalised in Tripura

Agartala: The Congress and INDI Bloc candidate Asish Kumar Saha has written a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer, Tripura, Puneet Agarwal demanding to take strict actions against alleged BJP-backed goons for reportedly vandalising and destroying Congress publicity vehicle on April 02.

In the letter, Saha has alleged that a severe breach of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) perpetrated by individuals associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) occurred on April 02 a Congress publicity vehicle prominently displaying party flags, flexes, and posters, was forcefully commandeered by a group of BJP goons and the driver of the vehicle, Pradip Debnath, was forcibly taken into the nearby Jungle at Brinda Chowmuhani from Kali Bazaar under West District of Tripura as per eyewitness reports.

“Upon reaching Brinda Chowmuhani, the BJP-affiliated individuals proceeded to vandalize and destroy the flags, flexes, and posters on the vehicle, and the materials have been set on fire blatantly violating the sanctity of the electoral process and undermining the democratic principles upheld by our nation. This egregious act of coercion and intimidation not only threatens the integrity of the ongoing electoral proceedings but also poses a significant risk to the safety and well-being of individuals involved in the electoral process. I must stress the urgency of this matter, as the actions of these BJP goons strike at the very heart of our democratic ideals. Furthermore, the deliberate targeting of political opponents and their campaign materials represents a flagrant disregard for the laws and regulations governing fair and free elections in our country”, the letter reads.

Saha who is also Tripura Congress president, said has asked the CEO to take immediate and decisive action to rectify this injustice.

“Specifically, I request that you ensure the swift arrest and prosecution of all individuals involved in this reprehensible act, thereby sending a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Furthermore, I kindly request that you provide me with a detailed report outlining the measures taken in response to this complaint, as well as any additional steps that may be necessary to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future”, the letter added.
