Imphal: Congress in Manipur has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner of India accusing the BJP-led government headed by the state Chief Minister N Biren Singh of violating the model of code of conduct.

Rabi Khan, legal advisor and spokesperson of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), in the complaint to CEC, stated that despite enforcement of the ECC, the District Employment Exchange, Bishnupur issued a notice for the appointment of 1140 primary teachers on a contractual basis in the education department on March 28, 2024.

The state social welfare department also issued a notice for submission of form for the "Nongthangleima Yaipha Thourang scheme," on April 1, 2024.

Talking to the newsmen at Imphal on Tuesday, Rabi Khan expressed apprehension over potential violations of the model code of conduct concerning the gatherings of women at Chief Minister Biren Singh’s residence during the period from March 27, 2024, to March 31, 2024.

Further, he also noted the existence of videos documenting these gatherings, suggesting a deliberate attempt to influence voters through the distribution of freebies with the elections around the corner.
