GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the global impact of Assam tea, praising contribution of Assam tea to the world's daily routines.

“Wherever you are in the world, when you sip your cup of tea in the morning, it's most likely from the lush tea gardens of Assam, delivering freshness to you,” Sarma said.

He also lauded the tea garden workers from Assam saying that the state government is “committed to incentivize” the tea garden workers.

“Assam Tea has made its way all over the world,” said CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

It may be mentioned here that Assam Tea is globally renowned, and the state is the largest tea-producing region in India.

Highlighting the economic significance of Assam Tea, the chief minister noted that the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) sold Assam tea worth Rs 2300 crore during the financial year 2023-24.

An official mentioned that the GTAC auctioned approximately 115 kg of Assam Tea during this period.
