BJP wins 9 out of 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam

Guwahati: In Assam, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) clinched nine of the 14 Lok Sabha constituency seats and along with its allies its tally stood at 11 seats.

In Darrang-Udalguri, BJP’s candidate Dilip Saikia won the contest by defeating Congress candidate Madhab Rajbangshi by a margin of 3,29,012 votes.  

Saikia got a total of 8,68,387 votes compared to Rajbangshi’s 5,39,375 votes.

In Digrugarh Lok Sabha Constituency seat BJP candidate and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal defeated Lurinjyoti Gogoi of Assam Jatiya Parishad by a margin of 2,79,321 votes.

Sonowal got a total of 6,93,762 votes compared to Gogoi’s 4,14,441 votes.

In Diphu BJP candidate Amarsing Tisso defeated J. I. Kathar (Independent) by a margin of 1,47,603 votes.

Tisso got a total of 3,34,620 votes compared to Kathar’s 1,87,017 votes.

In the Guwahati constituency seat, Bijuli Kalita Medhi defeated Congress candidate Mira Borthakur Goswami by a margin of 2,51,090 votes.

Medhi got a total of 8,94,887 votes compared to Goswami’s 6,43,797 votes.

In the Karimganj constituency seat, it was a tough fight between the BJP and the Congress candidate. BJP’s Kripanath Mallah came out triumphed by defeating Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhury of Congress by a margin of 18,360 votes.

Mallah got a total of 5,45,093 votes compared to Choudhury’s 5,26,733 votes.

In Kaziranga constituency seat, BJP’s Kamakhya Prasad Tasa defeated Roselina Tirkey of Congress by a margin of 2,48,947 votes.

Tasa received a total of 8,97,043 votes compared to Tirkey’s 6,48,096 votes.         

In the Lakhimpur constituency seat, BJP candidate Pradan Baruah defeated Uday Shankar Hazarika of Congress by a margin of 2,01,257 votes.

Baruah received a total of 6,63,122 votes compared to Hazarika’s 4,61,865 votes.

In the Silchar constituency seat, BJP candidate Parimal Suklabaidya defeated Surya Kanta Sarkar of Congress by a margin of 2,64,311 votes.

Suklabaidya got a total of 6,52,405 votes compared to Sarkar’s 3,88,094 votes.

In the Sonitpur constituency seat, BJP candidate Ranjit Dutta defeated Premlal Ganju of Congress by a margin of 3,61,408 votes.

Dutta received a total of 7,75,788 votes compared to Ganju’s 4,14,380 votes.
