Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its intention to contest both vacant Rajya Sabha seats in Assam.

State BJP president Bhabesh Kalita said that the party was confident that it would get the support from other National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners to contest and win both seats.

The decision was made during a two-day BJP meeting in Guwahati, where party leaders discussed strategies for the upcoming panchayat and Rajya Sabha polls.

Another crucial meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma set to attend.

Kalita also raised concerns about the safety of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, urging the new government to take necessary measures to protect them.

He criticized the Congress for its silence on the issue.

It may be mentioned that after Sarbananda Sonowal and Kamakhya Prasad Tasa won the Lok Sabha elections, two Rajya Sabha seats in Assam became vacant.

The Election Commission has scheduled voting for these seats on September 3.
