Guwahati: Anwarul Azim Anar, an MP from Jhenaidah-4 constituency in Bangladesh, who went missing since May 14 in Kolkata is found dead.

Anar was apparently in the city for medical treatment.

Kolkata police on Wednesday launched a search operation for Anar, a member of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's party, who came to West Bengal's capital on May 12.

The Bangladeshi Awami League leader’s mobile phone is also currently switched off.

According to reports, the police suspect that he has been murdered and that his body has been dumped in Kolkata’s Newtown area.

During the search operations, the police also spotted blood stains in a flat in Newtown.

According to local media reports in Bangladesh, Anar had sought some money from his manager on May 14.

During that time he was in a private car with some Indian friends after attending a wedding ceremony.

Anar was staying at the residence of his friend, Gopal Biswas.

He reportedly went missing two days later, following which Biswas filed a complaint with the Kolkata police.

Anar’s family also raised the issue with Sheikh Hasina, and her office informed diplomats in Delhi and Kolkata.
