Bajrang Dal activists protest alleging religious bias in Tripura school
Guwahati: Bajrang Dal activists organized a demonstration following allegations that a teacher at a private Christian missionary school in Tripura's Agartala forbade a student from wearing a Hindu symbol-adorned wristband and confiscated it, citing "offence to religious sentiments".
The school issued a statement, stating that upon learning of the incident, the parent reported it to the principal, who assured prompt action.
Subsequently, a meeting between the parent and the vice-principal was arranged, resulting in the teacher restoring the wristband to the student.
A Bajrang Dal spokesperson condemned the incident, expressing concerns about religious freedom in missionary-run schools and asserting that such actions hinder children's natural development.

The incident, according to the spokesperson, signifies not only an affront to the student's beliefs but also an attack on Hinduism itself, violating cultural, traditional, and constitutional rights. The group demanded the teacher be instructed to return the wristband.
Manoj Nath, a faculty member and parent of the affected student, said that the wristband held "significance" from the Somnath Temple in Gujarat.

He criticized the school for allegedly fostering a narrow mindset among students.
In response, Holy Cross School Principal Rev Jilson Tom described the incident as regrettable and said that the school held a commitment to secular values and respect for all religious beliefs.
He assured that the school would uphold every individual's right to religious freedom.
