Guwahati: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the death of singer Zubeen Garg has intensified its probe, confirmed Special DGP MP Gupta, who heads the SIT.

On Thursday, Gupta stated that the team is actively interrogating multiple individuals connected to the case and is pursuing every possible lead.

“We have arrested Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, and we are questioning several others associated with the incident,” Gupta said.

He also revealed that authorities have invoked Section 103 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), adding to the existing charges in the case.

The SIT has issued formal notices to all individuals involved and directed them to appear before investigators by October 6 for questioning. Gupta affirmed that the SIT will thoroughly examine all individuals linked to the case.

Regarding the autopsy, Gupta further clarified that Singapore authorities will hand over Zubeen Garg’s post-mortem report directly to his family and will not release it to the public.

Meanwhile, medical officials in Guwahati have completed the post-mortem, and the SIT awaits the final report from Delhi.

The case, registered as No. 18/2025, includes multiple BNS sections: 61(2), 103, 105, and 106(1). The arrested individuals—Mahanta and Sharma—are currently under interrogation at the CID headquarters.

In addition to the main investigation, authorities have filed a separate property-related case against Shyamkanu Mahanta under Case No. 19/2025, booked under BNS Sections 316(5), 336(5), 337, 338, 339, 340(2), 341(1), and 342(1).

Gupta reiterated the SIT’s commitment to uncovering the truth.

“We are pursuing every lead. We’ve made arrests, and we will question everyone connected with the case. Notices have been served, and all concerned individuals must appear by October 6,” he further added.
