Guwahati: The Special Fast Track Court has dismissed Siddharth Sharma’s bail application. The court took up the bail application on April 28, during which both sides made detailed submissions before the bench. The court then chose to reserve its order after the hearing concluded.

The decision, which was earlier expected on May 2, could not be announced on time due to the court remaining closed on that date. The order was delivered subsequently.

The court turned down the bail request, noting concerns that the accused could avoid appearing before the court if released.

The court also noted that if released on bail, the accused could potentially attempt to affect or pressure witnesses involved in the case.

The court noted that hearings on framing charges against all accused have already been completed.

The accused had also filed discharge pleas, which were heard before the case was reserved for judgment.

The Special Fast Track Court will resume functioning on May 18 after a brief closure starting May 5. On that day, the accused will be produced before the court via video conferencing for the next round of remand proceedings.

The court is also scheduled to pronounce its decision on the discharge petitions as well as framing of charges on May 26.
