Tezpur University fraternity rejects Assam CM’s statement, calls for acting VC
Guwahati: The Tezpur University (TU) fraternity has strongly rejected Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s recent statement regarding the ongoing campus crisis, insisting that their demand for an Acting Vice Chancellor remains unchanged.
The Chief Minister’s suggestion to appoint a Pro-Vice Chancellor, the fraternity said, reflects a misunderstanding of their long-standing demand. “We want an Acting Vice Chancellor, not a Pro-VC,” the fraternity emphasized, adding that silence from the state leadership during the 76-day turmoil had only worsened the situation.
The TU community expressed deep disappointment over the Chief Minister’s delayed response, noting that his involvement came only after the issue received national attention. They questioned whether his sudden engagement was motivated by genuine responsibility or political considerations.
The fraternity reiterated its key demands: immediate suspension of the current Vice Chancellor pending inquiry, appointment of an Acting Vice Chancellor, and the publication of all inquiry reports submitted to authorities.
