The occasion facilitated a moment of cultural reconnection and heritage discussion, affirming the shared lineage and bonds between the Tai communities across borders.

The reunion included participation from several dignitaries, including Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who spoke about the efforts to revive and preserve the Tai identity.

Attendees commented on the unification of Tai descendants, noting that the meeting served as a recognition of shared heritage, language, and cultural values. The gathering emphasized the importance of preserving the Tai Ahom legacy and its ideals.

Appreciation was extended to Hemanta Kumar Gogoi, Chairman of STAR, and his team for their role in organizing the event and preserving the traditions of the Tai civilisation.

Participants expressed the view that this renewed connection between the Tai communities of Assam and Myanmar could lead to future cultural and historical collaboration.

According to information available on websites, the Tai Ahoms are a prominent ethnic group of Assam, tracing their ancestry to the Tai people who migrated from present-day Yunnan, China, under the leadership of Chaolung Sukapha in 1228 CE.

Sukapha established the Ahom kingdom in the Brahmaputra Valley, laying the foundation of a dynasty that ruled Assam for nearly six centuries.

The Ahoms are known for their administrative skills, military capability, and ability to assimilate diverse cultures while preserving their distinct Tai language, rituals, and traditions.

Their rule contributed to the socio-political and cultural evolution of Assam, leaving an imprint on its architecture, art, and governance.

Today, efforts are ongoing to revive the Tai script, customs, and historical consciousness.
