Artists from different northeastern states performed during the festival, which organisers said aimed to promote the region’s cultural identity among international audiences.

“Songs and cultures of Northeast India were showcased at the festival. Artists performed various songs from the region and people from different communities attended the programme with enthusiasm,” said Indrajit Guha, president of Saptaranga Cultural Society.

“For the first time we organised the festival and it was a huge success for us because people appreciated the initiative,” he added.

Guha said the organisation aims to promote artists from Northeast India and provide them with a wider platform to showcase their cultural traditions.

“We are planning to organise it on a bigger scale in the future. Delegates from various places attended the programme,” he said.

Guha, who hails from Dibrugarh in Assam, is currently based in Canada.

Founded in Vancouver, Saptaranga Cultural Society is a non-profit organisation established by members of the Northeastern Indian diaspora to promote the culture and traditions of the region in Canada.
