Guwahati: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat arrived in Assam on Monday, marking a significant moment in the organisation’s nationwide 100-year celebration tour.

“He is always an inspiration for us,” RSS members said.

Meanwhile, political observers say his visit may indirectly impact the upcoming Assembly elections in the state, as the RSS is often seen as the ideological support base of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

His two-day engagement in the state focuses on internal reviews, strategic planning, and interactions with workers who form the backbone of the Sangh’s activities in the Northeast.

Upon landing at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Bhagwat travelled straight to Sudarshanalaya at Barbari, the RSS headquarters in Guwahati. Officials said he will participate in a series of closed-door meetings with Sangh pracharaks and senior functionaries.

This marks Bhagwat’s second visit to Guwahati this year.

In February, he spent five days in the city, holding wide-ranging consultations with karyakartas on organisational priorities.

During that trip, he also addressed a session of the Rashtra Sevika Samiti at IIT Guwahati and later participated in a Bouddhik (intellectual) lecture at South Point High School in Saukuchi, which saw thousands of volunteers attending.

The ongoing visit assumes added importance as the RSS commemorates its centenary year with year-long programmes across India. Assam, considered a key region for the organisation due to its cultural and strategic position in the Northeast, is expected to host several events under this nationwide initiative.

During his stay, Bhagwat is expected to join internal review sessions, blueprint discussions for future outreach, and interactions with ground-level workers who drive the Sangh’s local activities.

His engagements will conclude on Tuesday, after which he will travel to another state as part of the centenary itinerary.
