Ripun Bora resigns as Assam TMC chief

Guwahati: Ripun Bora, the State President of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Assam, has tendered his resignation to the party's National Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee.

Bora, a former Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), cited the persistent perception of TMC as a regional party of West Bengal as the primary reason for his departure.

Despite his tireless efforts to establish TMC as a viable alternative to the BJP in Assam, Bora expressed his frustration at being unable to secure an appointment with Banerjee and TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee to address his concerns.

He had suggested measures to counter the regional party perception, including the need for an Assamese leader at the national level and the promotion of Assamese cultural heritage sites.

Bora, who joined TMC in April 2022, said that his decision to resign was not driven by personal grievances but rather by circumstances beyond his control.

He further pledged to continue fighting against communal and fascist forces on a personal level.

Along with Bora, president of the youth wing of the TMC in Assam, Mehboob Ali also resigned from the party citing personal reasons.
