Over 8,000 to join Assam Congress in single-day induction: Gaurav Gogoi
Guwahati: More than 8,000 people from across Assam are expected to join the Congress party on Monday, which the party describes as one of its largest single-day inductions in recent months.
"There is a 'Brihat Yogdan Karyasuchi' at Kongkon Yuvak Sangh Khelpathar on Monday at Bijulibon (Phillobari) in the presence of Gaurav Gogoi Dangoriya," Durga Bhumij, president of the Tinsukia District Congress Committee, told Northeast Now.
The mass joining is set to take place under the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi, president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).
Last September, the Congress party in Assam had decided to induct political leaders and workers from other parties on the 10th of every month. Sharing the development on social media, Gaurav Gogoi wrote on X:
“Today more than 8000 people in Assam will join the Congress party in a single day on 10th November.
Last September, the Congress party in Assam decided to induct political leaders from other parties on the 10th of every month. We kept our word on September 10, October 10, and now on November 10.
Today’s joining of over 8,000 people has exceeded our expectations and created anxiety in the opposite camp.
We are on our way to usher in a new Assam. A new Assam where people live in peace and with dignity. #EibaarJujEikhonHobo #NatunAxomNatunCongress #BorAxom”
Party insiders said the initiative is part of the Congress’s state-wide campaign to strengthen its grassroots network ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
Political observers view the move as a strategic effort to regain lost ground in the state.
