Guwahati: Northeast India braces for a week of wet weather as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts widespread rainfall across the region.

While light to moderate showers are expected across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, some areas will see significantly heavier downpours, Weather Channel reported.

Arunachal Pradesh can expect heavy showers exceeding 64mm till Sunday. Assam and Meghalaya are forecast to receive similar amounts through Monday. Nagaland and Manipur are also under a heavy rain advisory for Sunday.

Meghalaya has the highest chance of experiencing very heavy rainfall, possibly exceeding 115mm on both Sunday and Monday.

The forecast also warns of hot and humid conditions in Assam and Tripura on Saturday, making for an uncomfortable start to the weekend.

The IMD has issued an orange alert, signifying the need for preparedness, for Bihar on Saturday and Sunday, and Assam and Meghalaya from Sunday to Monday.

A yellow watch, urging residents to stay informed, covers the remaining eastern and northeastern states for the next five days.
