NIA charges 11 in alleged terror conspiracy case across Assam, Tripura, Bengal

Guwahati: A chargesheet has been submitted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against 11 individuals in a terror conspiracy case involving a faction linked to the banned Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
The filing was made before the NIA Special Court in Guwahati under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
Investigators said the accused were part of a network operating under Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), a JMB-linked module, which allegedly worked to spread extremist ideology across West Bengal and northeastern regions, including Assam and Tripura.
The group was reportedly engaged in spreading radical narratives, recruiting vulnerable individuals, and expanding its organisational footprint.
The investigation further found that IMK was formed by senior JMB member Imam Mahmud Habibullah to extend the banned organisation’s influence within India.
Officials also stated that the accused participated in coordinated activities such as covert meetings, indoctrination programmes, circulation of extremist content, and online dissemination of anti-state propaganda.
Among those chargesheeted, Nasimuddin was identified as handling IMK operations in Assam, while Jagir Mia was said to be in charge of activities in Tripura.
The agency said its probe recovered electronic devices, documents, and digital material that formed key evidence in the case.
