Mottock community to intensify protests for ST status in Assam

Dibrugarh: Five leading Mottock organizations have announced a series of escalating protests to demand Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the community in Assam.
The decision was made public during a press conference held at Mottock Bhawan in Dibrugarh on Saturday.
The organizations involved are the All Assam Mottock Sanmilan, All Assam Mottock Yuba Chatra Sanmilan, All Assam Mottock Mahila Parishad, All Assam Mottock Yuba Chatra Parishad, and All Assam Mottock Students' Union.
The protest calendar includes a district-wide five-hour sit-in on August 16, followed by a two-hour demonstration at Chachal in Guwahati on August 22.
On August 26, mass protests will be held outside district commissioner offices, culminating in a larger demonstration in New Delhi on September 6.
The community has planned a rail blockade for September 13 and an airport blockade on September 27. The most stringent action, a 100-hour economic blockade, is scheduled for October 4.
The Mottock community joins the Tai Ahoms, Morans, Koch Rajbongshis, Sooteas, and Tea Tribes in their pursuit of ST status within the state.
