"Laziness can destroy ambitions", says Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika addressing students in Digboi
Digboi: Assam Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika on Friday addressed students at RD Senior Secondary School in Digboi, Tinsukia district, urging them to embrace discipline, determination, and hard work to achieve success in life.
The Minister participated in an interaction programme held on the school premises.
Hazarika was accompanied by Sadiya MLA Bolin Chetia, Digboi MLA Suren Phukan, senior BJP leaders, as well as learned personalities and educationists from Digboi.
Highlighting India’s growing global presence, the Minister said that India has produced some of the top CEOs in the United States and other countries, demonstrating that the nation has no shortage of talent.
He emphasised that success depends not only on intelligence but also on relentless effort and commitment.
“Had I not been driven by strong determination following an unforgettable incident in my student life, I would not have become a Minister today,” he said, urging students to remain focused on their goals. “No matter how intelligent one is, laziness can destroy ambitions.”
One notable aspect of the Minister’s address was that he deliberately refrained from including any politically oriented statements, keeping his entire interaction with the youth strictly motivational and student-centric.
Hazarika praised the RD School management and faculty for consistently delivering excellent academic outcomes. He also pointed to the significant expansion of colleges and universities across Assam in recent years, offering greater opportunities for students to pursue their aspirations.
Commenting on the state’s progress, he said that rapid industrial and infrastructural development has led to reverse migration, with more youths choosing to seek employment within Assam.
The Minister also cited the dedication of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as an example for students. “Our Chief Minister sleeps only four hours a day because of his commitment to the people. Students should also study with seriousness and dedication,” he remarked.
Referring to a recent conversation with Tinsukia Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar, Hazarika noted that students from Bihar often excel in competitive examinations due to their ability to work tirelessly.
“This is why Bihar produces some of the highest numbers of IAS and IPS officers,” he added, emphasising that high academic scores alone are insufficient without hard work and consistency.
Meanwhile, Simi Dhanowar, Director of RD Senior Secondary School, shared the institution’s decades-long journey of delivering brilliant academic performance.
Dibya Jyoti Dey, Principal of RD English Academy, highlighted the school’s role in boosting local employment while significantly contributing to the growth of economic activities in and around Digboi township.
During the programme, the Minister also felicitated Digboi CO-District Superintendent of Police Himangshu Gohain and Inspector Dibya Jyoti Dutta for their recent recognition with the prestigious Best Police Station Award conferred by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India.
The Minister also paid floral tributes to Zubeen Garg and former Congress veteran legislator Late Rameswar Dhanowar, the founding chairman of the RD Sports and Educational Trust.
