Lakshman Prasad Acharya sworn-in as new Assam governor

Guwahati: Lakshman Prasad Acharya was officially sworn in as Assam governor on Tuesday (July 30) afternoon in a ceremony held at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

The oath was administered by Gauhati high court chief justice Vijay Bishnoi.

The event was attended by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, various cabinet ministers, and other dignitaries.

Acharya (59), who succeeds Gulab Chand Kataria, will also hold the additional charge of Manipur.

Before his current appointment, Acharya served as the Sikkim governor.

His earlier served in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He was also a member of the Uttar Pradesh legislative council.

Following the oath taking ceremony, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “Our government looks forward to his guidance in realising the mission of a Viksit Assam.”

Gulab Chand Kataria, the former Assam governor, has been appointed as the governor of Punjab and will also serve as the administrator of the union territory of Chandigarh.
