Guwahati parks to allow free entry from Dec 1, says Assam Minister
Guwahati: Assam Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah on Saturday declared that every public park in Guwahati will allow free entry from December 1.
The announcement followed the massive footfall witnessed at the newly opened Guwahati Riverfront, Sati Radhika Shaanti Udyan in Uzan Bazar.
Mallabaruah clarified that visitors must collect an entry pass, but they will not have to pay any fee. “People will only be asked to provide their name and phone number before entering,” he said.
To ensure smooth operations, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) and Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) have been tasked with framing guidelines aimed at preventing littering, nuisance, and other anti-social behaviour inside the parks.
In another development, the minister confirmed that restoration of the Juripar drainage system will begin on November 24.
The work has been made possible through land contributions from residents under the TDR policy, an effort that aims to reduce artificial flooding in the most affected neighbourhoods.
