Guwahati: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi condemned Assam Cabinet minister Ashok Singhal for posting a cauliflower-field image after the Bihar election results, arguing that the remark dragged political conversation to an unacceptable low.

Singhal uploaded a photo of cauliflower cultivation along with the caption, “Bihar approves gobi farming.”

Gogoi countered that the phrase echoes memories of the 1989 Logain massacre in Bhagalpur, where more than a hundred Muslims were killed and their bodies reportedly hidden beneath cauliflower fields.

Gogoi said the minister’s use of such imagery for political messaging “crosses all limits of decency” and trivialises a deeply painful chapter of history.

He accused the BJP leadership in Assam of fostering this mindset, alleging that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma encourages “hostility toward minority communities.”

Invoking Assam’s legacy of harmony, he reminded that the state follows the ideals of figures like Srimanta Sankardev, Lachit Borphukan, and Azaan Pir.

Gogoi also expressed confidence that voters would reject divisive politics in the upcoming Assembly election and “choose an administration that values dignity and compassion.”
