Gate collapses at Kolkata event attended by WB CM Mamata Banerjee, two injured
Kolkata: On Wednesday, a temporary gate collapsed during a cultural event in Kolkata, resulting in injuries to two individuals.
The event, attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department at the Dhanadhanya Auditorium. The injured were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.
Footage from the scene shows an injured person being carried to an ambulance by bystanders.
The event was held to commemorate the 44th death anniversary of the iconic actor Uttam Kumar.
The Dhanadhanya Auditorium, where the incident occurred, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on April 13, 2023.
During the event, the Chief Minister was scheduled to present the Mahanayak awards to distinguished film personalities.
Since the Trinamool Congress retained power in 2021, the state government has annually observed the death anniversary of Uttam Kumar, one of the most beloved actors in West Bengal's history.
Born on July 24, 1980, Uttam Kumar is celebrated for his roles in popular films such as *Saheb Bibi Golam* (1956), *Harano Sur* (1957), and *Saptapadi* (1961).
