GUWAHATI: Assam governor Gulab Chand Kataria officiated the oath-taking ceremony for Sujoy Lal Thaosen as chief commissioner of Assam state commission for rights to public services

Former director general of CRPF, Sujoy Lal Thaosen, was sworn in as the chief commissioner of the Assam state commission for rights to public services in a ceremony presided over by Assam governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Tuesday (March 12).

The event, graced by Assam power minister Nandita Gorlosa, Assam police chief GP Singh, former Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, and other senior civil and police officials, marked the formal induction of Thaosen into his new role.

Thaosen, a distinguished 1988 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, retired as the director general of central reserve police force (CRPF) on November 30 last year, bringing to a close a career spanning over 35 years in various capacities.

Hailing from Haflong, Thaosen is a scholar with a PhD from Ujjain University and a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Apart from his illustrious career in law enforcement, Thaosen is known for his passion for sports, with interests ranging from athletics, tennis, and badminton to golf.

During his tenure, Thaosen served twice in the SPG, responsible for the security of Prime Ministers of India. Additionally, he contributed to international peacekeeping efforts as part of the International Police Task Force (IPTF) in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1999 to 2000.

Thaosen's leadership extends to overseeing significant events such as the Kumbh Mela in Ujjain, Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations in Delhi, and the Commonwealth Games 2010, showcasing his multifaceted expertise and dedication to public service.
