Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday reaffirmed his commitment to building ‘Bor Asom’, a vision of Greater Assam that embraces every community of the state during the Asom Divas celebrations.

Sarma paid homage to Chaolung Sukapha, founder of the Ahom kingdom, who entered Assam in 1228 AD and laid the foundation of a long and influential Ahom rule. “As we observe #AsomDivas, we pledge to keep building the Bor Asom he envisioned proud, strong, and united,” the chief minister said in a post on X.

He also extended gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his greetings. “Thank you Adarniya @AmitShah ji for your wishes on Asom Divas. Under Adarniya @narendramodi ji’s leadership, the double-engine government has consistently worked to preserve and promote the glorious legacy of the Ahoms and Assam on the global stage,” Sarma wrote.

In his message, Shah conveyed “warm wishes to our sisters and brothers of Assam on #AsomDivas,” adding that the day not only honours the Ahom era but also reinforces the nation’s resolve to safeguard Assam’s cultural heritage. He noted that the Modi-led NDA government has brought peace and development to the Northeast, transforming Assam into an emerging centre of education and innovation. “May this day strengthen our unity and deepen our cultural bond honouring our past and empowering our future,” he said.

Sarma also announced that Sui-Ka-Pha University will be renamed Su-Ka-Pha University, adding that the university’s diverse academic disciplines align with the larger vision of ‘Bor Asom’ inspired by Sargawakee Su-Ka-Pha.
