Centre proposes two more emergency landing facilities on Assam highways

New Delhi: The central government has proposed the establishment of emergency landing facilities (ELF) on two stretches of national highways in Nagaon and Baksa districts of Assam.

These facilities will bolster strategic and rescue operations in the Northeast region.

Currently, India has seven ELF stretches, with construction completed on three, and work in progress on the remaining four.

One of these under-construction ELFs is in Dibrugarh district of Assam, located on a 3.5-kilometer section of a four-lane highway.

These ELFs are designed for both strategic military use and for rescue and relief operations during natural disasters.

If the proposed ELF stretches in Nagaon and Baksa are approved, Assam will have three such facilities.

According to the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH), these projects will proceed based on the results of feasibility studies.
