BPF rules out pre-poll alliance with BJP ahead of 2026 Assam elections
Biswanath: The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has made it clear that the party will not enter into any pre-poll alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. Bodoland Teritorial Council(BTC) Deputy Chief and senior BPF leader Rihan Daimary announced the decision during a party victory celebration at Karai Guri in Gohpur.
Addressing party workers, Daimary said the BPF will contest the upcoming polls independently.
“BPF will not form any pre-election alliance with any political party,” he said, adding that the party would consider post-poll arrangements based on which political formation secures a majority and shows commitment towards the development of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
Daimary also responded to the ongoing discussions over granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six communities in Assam. He said the BPF has no objection to their inclusion, provided that the rights and interests of existing tribal communities remain protected.
“We welcome the move as long as current tribal groups do not face any adverse impact,” he stated.
On the recent attack on the BTC Secretariat, Daimary alleged that individuals linked to the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) and the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) were involved. He urged the Assam Government to take strict action against those responsible.
Senior BPF leaders, including Dhanashiri constituency Executive Member Fais Muchahari and Chairman Tridip Daimary, joined the event along with several party workers and supporters.
