Dibrugarh: A special book launch was held at Dibrugarh University on November 14 to celebrate the Korean translation of Assamese poet Manoj Barpujari's collection, Riparian Silence.

The book was translated by the prominent South Korean writer, poet, and critic Seok Yong Chang. The event was a joint effort between the Office of International Affairs, Dibrugarh University, and the Inter-State Foreign Maitribandhan Sub-Committee, Asom Sahitya Sabha.

The translated volume was jointly unveiled by Surajit Borkotokey, Director, Office of International Affairs, Dibrugarh University; Sashi Kanta Saikia, Convener of the Sub-Committee and Principal of D.H.S.K. College (Autonomous); K.K. Deka, Former Vice-Chancellor; and Gopal Hazarika, Retired Professor.

The event was graced by the poet himself, Manoj Barpujari, a renowned journalist and writer, who shared the story of how the South Korean translator became interested in his work.

The translator, Seok Yong Chang, was also in attendance. Seok is a highly acclaimed figure in the Korean arts and culture scene, known for his work as a film critic, columnist, and former professor.

He has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious PAF Critic Award and the Korea Culture and Art Award.

Speaking at the launch, Seok, a former chairman of the Committee of Korean Arts Critics, praised the creativity and depth of Assamese writers. He thanked the organizers for facilitating the launch of his translation.

The Korean guest was formally welcomed by Professor Jyoti Prasad Phukan and Professor Aditya Dahal on behalf of D.H.S.K. College (Autonomous).
