GUWAHATI: Sahitya Akademi Award recipient and renowned author of Assamese short stories, Dr Pranabjyoti Deka, passed away on Saturday (April 06) at the age of 84 in Guwahati.

According to reports, he was undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Assam for the past four days.

In December last year, Dr Pranabjyoti Deka was honoured with the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for his collection of Assamese short stories titled ‘Dr Pranavjyoti Dekar Srestha Galpa’, which was published in 2021.

Acknowledged for his literary contributions, Dr Pranabjyoti Deka was a multifaceted figure, excelling as a novelist, researcher, dictionary writer and professor.

He was born on July 21, 1939, in Kolkata.

His passing leaves a void in the literary sphere and among the admirers of his work in Assam.
