Assam: Youth killed as car in Minister Pijush Hazarika’s convoy hits him in Guwahati

Guwahati: A 30-year-old youth was killed and another one injured after they were hit by the convoy of Assam water resources minister Pijush Hazarika.

The incident reportedly took place on Sunday night in the Khanapara area in Guwahati, which came to light on Tuesday.

The youth identified as Rupam Bora succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Apollo Hospital in Guwahati, CrossCurrent reported.

Victim Bora, who was riding a bike sustained serious injuries when the accident took place at around 12.30 pm on Sunday.

According to reports, Bora's motorcycle was hit by a Bolero vehicle allegedly associated with Minister Pijush Hazarika's convoy.

Witnesses claim that the convoy was exceeding the permissible speed limit within the city.

Eyewitnesses reported that the convoy included several escort vehicles, among them a Kia Carnival with the registration no AS01EM1111.

While registered under the name Rahul Jain, it is often observed being utilized by the minister.

A relative of the deceased expressed their disappointment at not receiving any communication from the minister so far, although the police have been in contact regarding the incident.

As of now, neither Minister Hazarika nor any police official has issued an official statement concerning the accident.
