Guwahati: A woman in Assam's Jorhat district was arrested for allegedly killing her husband and setting his body on fire, police said on Saturday. Her minor son was also apprehended.

The woman reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming she was a victim of domestic violence. Shwetank Mishra, the Jorhat district Superintendent of Police, said, '"The minor son will be investigated under the Child in Conflict with Law (CCL) provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015."

According to her confession, the woman alleged her husband physically assaulted her daily while intoxicated. She claimed she killed him to protect herself and their son.

The deceased, Prahalad Soren, was a tea garden worker. The incident occurred late Thursday night in the Murmuria tea estate of Jorhat's Mariani area. Local residents reported seeing Soren's wife burning something near their residence and alerted the police.

Officers arrived at the scene and recovered Soren's partially burned body. Police confirmed filing a case against the woman under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
