Assam welcomes EC’s Special Revision drive to clean up voter rolls
Guwahati: The Assam government has welcomed the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) decision to launch a Special Revision of the state’s electoral rolls, with January 1, 2026, designated as the qualifying date.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the move, stressing that an updated and error-free voter list is essential for safeguarding citizens’ voting rights.
He asserted that the revision would help every eligible voter secure accurate entries and participate in the democratic process without procedural hurdles.
Sarma also confirmed that the state administration will provide full cooperation to the ECI and its voter awareness wing, @ECISVEEP.
He said the government has instructed district and local authorities to ensure the exercise covers all regions, including Assam’s remote and border areas.
According to officials, the Special Revision aims to streamline the electoral database ahead of future elections.
The process will allow citizens to verify their information, add missing names, rectify mistakes, and remove duplicate or outdated entries.
Local election offices will conduct camps and awareness programmes across towns and villages to help voters complete the updating process efficiently.
