Assam: Two nabbed with huge cache of cough syrup bottles in Karimganj

Guwahati: A police team in Karimganj, Assam busted a possible cough syrup smuggling bit on arrested two suspected smugglers.

A police source said that acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted a truck at a checkpoint along the Assam-Tripura border in Churaibari.

A comprehensive search of the vehicle uncovered roughly 193 cartons containing around 9,700 bottles of cough syrup, identified as the codeine phosphate-based syrups Eskuf and Phensedyl.

Two men, Sadananda Ray and Sanjay Ray, both residents of West Bengal, were detained in connection with the seizure.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the intended destination and purpose of the cough syrup.
